Air Mauritius and Air Seychelles to operate joint service from London as
from April 2005
November 12th 2004, Victoria - Air Seychelles and Air Mauritius have signed
a letter of agreement to operate joint flights from the United Kingdom and
offer a 'one flight' service to Seychelles and Mauritius as from April next
year.
The twice weekly non-stop Air Seychelles flight to Mahe from London Heathrow
will continue to Mauritius. Air Mauritius has agreed to purchase 100 seats
per flights on the new service.
Air Seychelles Executive Chairman, Captain David Savy has said that as well
as providing more seats to Mauritius, the companies see the new flights as
an opportunity to develop two centre holidays to both destinations.
" This represents far better opportunities to promote the joint destinations
as a two centre holiday product. There is a growing trend for holiday
makers to share their holiday between multiple destinations. This is also
facilitated by the fact that there exists already hotel groups operating
both in Seychelles and Mauritius that are actively willing to promote this
product ", Captain Savy said.
The signature of the memorandum of understanding which held in London at
the World Travel Market this week, was warmly received by the UK tour
operators who are keen to package and sell the sister islands. Most tour
operators feature both Mauritius and Seychelles in their current brochures
and providing them with the possibility to sell a combination is a big plus.
Air Mauritius and Air Seychelles are in discussions to extend the two centre
concept to other points they commonly serve in their respective networks.
The fares proposed to tour operators are not only very attractive but also
provide greater flexibility to the customer in days of departure and
routing.
The new flights will depart from Heathrow on Friday and Sunday and be
operated by Air Seychelles Boeing 767-300 equipment. The configuration will
be 24 seats in 'Pearl' Business Class and 222 seats in Economy. Both
flights will be non-stop to Seychelles and then onward (same aircraft) to
Mauritius after a short transit. A third weekly flight will also be
operated between the islands using the same B767-300.
The new agreement is subject to Government approval and will commence after
Easter 2005.
